Human experiment with positive intergenerational trends A positive intergenerational trend means it members experience decreasing scarcity. A civilization with a negative intergenerational trend will collapse. Given present overshoot conditions, positive intergenerational trends will requires a rapidly decreasing population to continuously reduce scarcity. The essays suggest that a global population of 50 million (less than 1% of present) might be supported at North American lifestyles at an acceptable level of scarcity. This is an intermediate target. Increases in average wellbeing above NA, or changes in wealth redistribution will require continued reductions in population to prevent increase in scarcity. |
